Welcome!

Learning is complex: it involves deliberate practice, frustration, and willingness to try again with constructive encouragement.

Let me help your child reach their fullest potential! With 25 years of experience in this field, I recognize that each child is different and tailor our lessons to their individual needs. Our goal is to build confidence and help your student build a scaffolding of skills that will help them succeed.

"If it wasn't for Ms. Hudgins I wouldn't be where I am today. Whether it was helping me all the way through the college application process or spending countless hours helping me with any and all writing assignments, Ms. Hudgins was there for me."

-- Julie C., Elon College

"Susie helped my son to identify his reading challenges and develop strategies to overcome them."

"We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it, than we do the answer itself"

"Scaffolding":

You will hear me use the term "scaffolding" frequently.  Scaffolding is integral to my student-centered approach, and I use the continually evolving study of neuroscience to inform my coaching.  Experience and continuing professional education inform my practice to help students with executive function skills, and  specific language support based on the Orton-Gillingham approach.   I provide reading and writing support in high school and college as well as consulting in seeking out a great college fit and throughout the application process.

"Susie Hudgins is not only an amazing teacher but an incredible mentor as well. She has helped me countless times with academic papers, projects, and school assignments. She offers and incredibly supportive and encouraging work space when getting work done. I have never met another teacher who has pushed me as much as Mrs. Hudgins has. Whenever i had trouble with an assignment in or out of school i would always go to Mrs. Hudgins because I knew she would give me the best tutoring I could ask for."

You are far too smart to be the only thing standing in your way

"Susie Hudgins was invaluable to my ADD/Dyslexic son as his High School advisor and Executive Functioning teacher. She has an amazing ability to connect with her students, recognizing their strengths and weaknesses and giving them all of the tools they need to achieve their individual goals. She's honest, intelligent, humble, and goes above and beyond to empower her students to succeed....."

             Libbie C., Richmond, VA

"Well one thing I can say for sure is that (she) helped me with creating a structure for myself, and the individual sessions helped and impacted me more than any other teacher I know"
~Wilson McD, Flagler College

"Susie is amazing! She has helped our son tremendously and can get him to do things that we can't. She also genuinely cares about her students and goes above and beyond to help them. She is a gem!"

                     ~LeAnn M.,  Richmond, VA
